dec 20 - 26

  • Everything I googled in a week as a professional software engineer (localghost.dev) - just to prove that even a professional developer will not know everything without a little help from G
  • My Parents Collect Cans for a Living (thenation.com) - collecting cans in the U.S.
  • Against 3X Speed (perell.com) - force feeding your mind information is not the greatest way to become more intelligent, this article covers more effective ways to actually learn
  • Homebuilt pickups and trailer hitches (hemmings.com) - the custom pickups built in Sweden to allow under 18s to drive on the streets, (at up to 30MPH), due to the government classifying them as tractors
  • Rainbow Plane 002: Kiev (booktwo.org) - there was a B2 stealth bomber spotted on Google satellite imagery, the speed of the aircraft has resulted in the image being divided into the RGB layers of the camera. That phenomenon inspired this art piece back in 2014
  • The Dreamcast Legacy (hackaday.com) - a bit of history on Sega and the Dreamcast, one of my favourite consoles thanks to games like Shenmue, Metropolis Street Racer and Jet Set Radio
  • The messy future of social media (jacobobryant.com) - I'm not sure if it will be possible for the world to move past huge social media companies, into this 'messy' new world of older tech; emails, RSS etc. Maybe the masses will stay on the big socials and better content will move off it
  • When is a Scrape a Breach? (troyhunt.com) - Troy looks at some recent data breaches/hacks, the difference does seem minimal and where customers data is leaked it doesn't really matter if the data was forcibly stolen or just left out there for anyone to take
  • Gigantism Is a Never-Ending Temptation for Engineers and Designers (spectrum.ieee.org) - the inevitable pursuit of building larger and larger things, until eventually they just get too big and get scaled back to their optimum size
