I remember the Safeway Green Box system from when I was young, it really seems like it was ahead of its time now. I think we're nearly caught back up with the scan as you shop and self checkouts becoming widespread. The greenbox itself should've caught on though really (although they were meant to reduce plastic waste those green boxes still survive today and likely will for hundreds of years)
