8 - 14th Nov

  • You should use forums rather than Slack/Discord to support developer community (mooreds.com) - I'm old enough now to reminisce about 'the good old days', even if they weren't that great, when information on the internet was mostly available through public forums and discussion groups. Slack and Discord are better in many respects but the are proprietary siloed environments and not only is difficult for some to get access there is a strong chance that data in there is not going to stick around
  • Escape Team (escape-team.com) - an escape room game to print out and play at home. I'm a big fan of the Unlock! escape room/adventure board games and this one also looks right up my street
  • The Magnificent Bribe (reallifemag.com) - the trade of convenience vs. tracking with social media networks
  • Those Bullet Effects In Terminator 2 Weren’t CGI (hackaday.com) - how the splash of the bullets hitting the T1000 were creating using practical effects
  • Running a Law Firm on Linux (decoded.legal) - a lawyer running linux desktop, I use Windows at work and Linux at home and I can't currently imagine a switch at my place of work, Microsoft products and compatible drivers/software is too entrenched
