Links from 29 Nov - 5 Dec
- 8880 Lego Technic Supercar (tehcnicopedia.com) - an overview of one of the best Lego Technic cars made which features numerous firsts include 4-wheel steering and AWD. I remember lusting after the 8865 Test Car from my Lego building days but this is even better
- Essence Operating System (handmade-seattle.com) - a cool user interface design shown off at Handmade Seattle. I was wondering what an OS would be like if it used the web browser UX for everything (maybe ChromeOS does the same), as quite a few features like open in new tab, middle click to close etc. would work great on the file browser
- The Origins of ‘Horn OK Please’ (atlasobscura.com) - the phenomenon of trucks in India being emblazoned with the words 'Horn OK Please'
- Firefox is the Only Alternative (batsov.com) - More reasons to use Firefox than ever before. It seems to me that the former Edge team at Microsoft are being used to develop monetization features now that the core browser is no longer developed in-house but based on Chromium. Having said that, in a locked-down enterprise environment the new Chrome-based Edge is great, Google Chrome can be now be discontinued and all the hostile features of consumer Edge can be disabled by policy
- European Divide Trail (europeandividetrail.com) - an outstanding looking route that uses trails to traverse Europe from the top of Norway down to the edge of the Atlantic in Portugal. Unlike some of the routes I've ridden recently this professes to use ridable trails that aren't too technical, sounds perfect for a gravel adventure
