A few links from week 8 of 2021
My Factorio addiction continues, and now that the sun is out in the UK I've been trying to limit my game time until after dark. So another post that's nearly a week late on hitting the publish button. Anyway, here are some links from this week;
- The Amateur Tramp – The man who walked around a continent (greatestadventurers.com) - story of Aidan de Brune who in 1921 walked around the coastline of Australia, alone and without assistance
- Bird-Watching Goes Both Ways (altaonline.com) - how birds in LA County have adapted to coexist with humans
- Nextcloud Hub 21 out with up to 10x better performance (nextcloud.com) - I've been tempted to try a Nextcloud installation on my home server for a while and it's great to see that thing are still being pushed forwards. There is too much overlap with my OneDrive subscription to fully go for it at the moment, as I consider that to be my off-site backup and relying solely on my home server seems like it'll eventually result in catastrophic data loss
- Free Land — Living Off Grid With No Money (offgridpermaculture.com) - Living for free (mostly in America), from finding free land, to foraging for food
- Common Nginx misconfigurations that leave your web server open to attack (blog.detectify.com) - Detectify scanned 50000 nginx config files and have produced this article detailing the most common misconfigurations
- How often should I rotate my ssh keys? (tailscale.com) - why your SSH keys should be changed and no information on how often
